What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are a synthetic lash attached individually to your eyelashes to enhance the length, curl, fullness & thickness of your natural lashes. Using different styles of extensions, we can create a look tailored for you!

How long do the extensions last?

The majority of my clients come in for fills every 2-3 weeks. After your first full set of extensions, I suggest you come in for your first fill after two weeks. As you become accustomed to your extensions & we learn more about your natural lash cycle, we can usually extend fills to every 3 weeks. It totally depends on the client & how full they like their lashes.

Naturally, lashes shed as a part of the lash cycle. Some people shed more than others, in different seasons, during/after pregnancy or with hormonal changes. Don’t worry when you see lashes falling out! Your natural lashes have not been damaged by your extensions. Just come see me for a fill :)

Along with the growth cycle of a lash, they not only shed but also grow out. It is important to have fills every 2-3 weeks to remove the grown out extensions and replace that extension with one closer to the lash line to not weigh down the lash as well as maintain the appearance and health of your natural lashes & extensions.

Do extensions damage my natural eyelashes?

Not at all! The lash adhesive is formulated to create a solid bond. The adhesive dries softly on the lashes, allowing your lashes & the extensions to stay flexible & bouncy.

What should I do before coming to my appointment?

+ If possible, please try to avoid caffeine the day of your appointment (or at least for a few hours beforehand!) Caffeine can cause the eyelids to flutter or move when the eyes are shut, which makes it difficult to apply the extensions or lift/tint your lashes & at times, it can be uncomfortable for you.

+ Avoid coming in on an empty stomach.

+ Please arrive to your appointment with clean lashes (natural & extensions). Please no mascara or makeup residue. There is a bathroom at the studio, so if you know that you need to cleanse your lashes prior to your appointment, you can come in early & use it if need be! Lash wash is provided! Keep in mind that some cleansers contain oils and leave an oily reside on your lashes which could affect the bond & retention if you’re cleansing right before your appointment. I will do my best to cleanse & prep your lashes but sometimes oil can be quite stubborn. We have lash wash for sale at the studio :)

+ Do not lift, perm or curl your lashes with a lash curler before or after your extension application.

+ Plan to set aside enough time for the duration of your appointment.  Laying still for 2-4 hours is a long time. Make sure you can lay VERY STILL for these extended lengths without any issue.

+ Please refrain from wearing contacts during your appointment & bring your glasses if possible & you need them.

+ If you have your own music or a book you’d like to listen to, please feel free to bring your headphones & be ready to relax.

+ Read over and if possible, print and fill out at home, our Client Intake & Consent Form as well as our Patch Test form. If you are not able to print out at home, you may fill out a copy at the beginning of your appointment.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

+ Avoid steam, hot showers, facials, saunas, working out/sweating & swimming pools for those first 24 hours.

+ CLEANSE & BRUSH YOUR LASHES AT LEAST ONCE A DAY!

+ Book your fills! We recommend regular touch-up appointments every 2-3 weeks to maintain your desired fullness. If you wait more than 4 weeks for a fill (or have less than 50% of you lash extensions remaining), a full set will be required.

+ Do not tug, pull or play with your lashes. The oils on our hands can affect the retention of the glue & touching them may also increase spreading harmful bacteria to the eyes.

+ Do not use mascara or an eyelash curler on your lashes. Mascara is very hard to remove and will break down the adhesive and also interferes with the bond of your next application.

+ Avoid using oil-based products around your eye area. Cleanse eye area with a lash wash or a 100% oil-free cleanser. Oils break down the adhesive which will result in your lashes not having the retention they should have.

+ Do not try to remove the extensions on your own. You can always book a lash removal with me.

+ If you have any questions or concerns about unusual symptoms (or any general inquiry), please contact us immediately. PS: I’m not a physician so if you’re concerned about a reaction or symptoms, contact your doctor.

CARING FOR YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS

I love doing lashes & I want them to look as best as they can while making you happy! Here are some of my tips for maintaining your extensions & getting the retention I hope for:

+ Proper hygiene is one of the most important steps in maintaining your extensions. Please wash your lashes daily with an eyelash safe cleanser. We sell my favorite kind in the studio ($15)

+ After cleansing your lashes, washing your face & showering you can dab your lashes with a tissue (or towel) to dry them. Avoid using cotton pads, cotton rounds & q-tips around your eyes as the cotton can snag and the fibers wrap around & adhere to your lashes. Always brush through your lashes after washing & drying.

+ BRUSH YOUR LASHES DAILY!

+ Avoid rubbing your eyes, petting, picking or pulling your lash extensions.

+ All products used around the eye areas should be oil-free. Any oil-based product (concealer, foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, eye cream, medication, ointment, salve, etc.) near the eye area will break down the adhesive resulting in poor retention.

+ Use caution when applying creams & moisturizers around the eye area. Try to apply these products 1-2 hours before bedtime to allow your skin to absorb the product before closing your eyes for bed.

+ We recommend sleeping on your back if possible. If you sleep on your side, try to lay on the edge or corner of your pillow.

+ Do not use an eyelash curler.

+ Do not use mascara. It’s very hard to remove, breaks down adhesive from your previous application & interferes with the bond of your next fill. Please arrive without eye/under-eye makeup, which will also interfere with proper bonding & may cause retention issues.

+ Do not use water-proof eye makeup. It makes cleansing the lashes very difficult & may cause extra shedding.

+ Keep lashes away from high heat (flames from BBQ’s or bonfires, lighters/smoking, ovens). The tips of your extensions can burn & melt because of the synthetic fibers they’re made from. If you’re cooking with the oven, please be careful! I suggest you open the oven while looking away, let the heat/steam escape for a few seconds & then you can go about your business of making whatever deliciousness you’re cookin’ up!

+ I know this is a lot, and may require some small lifestyle changes — but I promise it’s worth it! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
